Auto repair is easier than you think it is. You don’t have to be a mechanic or anything like that. You just need to be aware of your car’s needs. Read ahead to find out how to improve your relationship with your car.

Pretend your car is a partner, a friend, a child… who you want to make happy.

Relationships require two things to thrive: care and attention.

There is nothing “needy” about wanting to feel loved and appreciated. If you ignore your partner’s needs for too long, the health of your relationship will suffer.

Cars aren’t much different. They require care and attention just like a romantic partner does. Strange noises and blinking dashboard lights are not signs of a good night. If you ignore these indicators for too long, the health of your automobile will suffer.

Understand that your car has needs just like people do.

Believe it or not, your car can talk to you…

.. and you won’t be happy if you ignore it. That’s okay, though. Don’t sweat it! With me by your side, you can learn to interpret car speak. It just takes practice and patience.

We will discuss this subject in-depth later (sign-up for email updates if you want to be an empowered and educated woman!), but for now I’d like to share a simple hint. The indicators on your dashboard are just like a traffic light.

Green means, “Go,” because everything is okay. Yellow means “Prepare” to be proactive and do maintenance to prevent future problems (hint: you better start putting loose change in your car jar!). Red means, “Stop,” because your car is sick and needs your attention.  If the red light is blinking, that means you need to stop right now for your own safety!

Ignoring a problem won’t make it go away.

I believe guys get frustrated with women who won’t speak their mind.

If you’ve ever uttered the words, “Nothing is wrong” (even though something was obviously wrong), then you know what I’m talking about. When you have a need, say so. When your car has a need, listen. It can’t take care of itself.

Mechanically Yours,

Audra Fordin
